Plaza Sant Felip Neri, Barcelona. January 30, 1938. During the Spanish Civil War, 42 people -mostly children-died during an intense air raid by the Franco regime, while they were sheltered in the basement of Sant Felip Neri Church.
Zeche Zollverein, Essen-Katernberg, Germany. June 30, 1993. The largest and most modern coal mine in Europe is permanently shut down. 80% of the inhabitants of Katernberg -the district sourrounding the mine- are left out of work. They were mainly of Turkish origen who migrated with their families to work in Germany.
